Gulf states seek role in US–Iran negotiations
26 March 2026 16:06
Gulf countries say they want to be involved in any talks between the United States and Iran, insisting that while they have a right to self-defense, they prefer diplomacy.
“We emphasize the necessity of involving the GCC countries in any talks or agreements to resolve this crisis, in a way that contributes to strengthening their security and stability,” Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary General Jasem AlBudaiwi says in a televised speech, The Times of Israel reports.
AlBudaiwi also says Iran has been asking vessels to pay sums of money to cross the Strait of Hormuz.
