Hamas blasts UN peacekeeping draft as threat to domestic authority
Hamas has voiced strong opposition to a US-proposed draft resolution at the United Nations Security Council, which seeks the deployment of international peacekeeping forces in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem, articulated the organization’s stance in an interview with Al Jazeera, asserting that the proposal undermines Palestinian sovereignty.
“The US proposal to establish international stabilization forces in the Gaza Strip effectively strips Palestinians of their capacity to manage their own affairs,” Qassem stated.
“Such measures transfer control over internal Palestinian matters—political and security-related alike—to external actors rather than Palestinian authorities. They represent interference in domestic Palestinian affairs rather than fostering genuine reconciliation,” he added.
