Hamas explores evacuation of fighters from Israeli-controlled areas in Gaza
Hamas is reportedly in discussions with intermediaries involved in ongoing negotiations with Israel regarding the potential evacuation of its fighters who have become trapped in Israeli-controlled areas of the Gaza Strip.
The talks involve several dozen members of Hamas’ military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades (IQB), who “found themselves beyond the so-called ‘green zone,’ in tunnels in Rafah and Khan Younis in the southern part” of the Palestinian enclave, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
These fighters had previously participated in operations to recover the bodies of deceased Israelis.
The discussions signal Hamas’ concern over the safety of its operatives stranded in contested areas and suggest ongoing efforts to secure their extraction amid heightened tensions in the region.
Negotiations facilitated by intermediaries could play a key role in preventing further escalation and ensuring the safe relocation of fighters caught in the crossfire between Israeli forces and militant factions within Gaza.
