Hamas leadership shake-up brings new faces to Gaza, West Bank

Hamas has elected new leaders for its branches in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, Al Hadath TV reports.

Sources cited by the broadcaster said former head of Hamas’s information department Ali al-Amoudi has been chosen to lead the movement in Gaza, while Zaher Jabarin will coordinate Hamas activities in the West Bank.

Earlier, Hamas announced that Khalil al-Hayya had been elected head of the movement’s political bureau. Until recently, he had led the group in the Gaza Strip.

The top leadership position within Hamas had remained vacant since the killing of Yahya Sinwar in October 2024 during an Israeli strike on a residential building in the southern Gaza city of Rafah.

Sinwar had succeeded Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in July 2024 in an Israeli attack on his residence in Tehran.
