Hamas officials join Nelson Mandela’s family at 10th death anniversary
Former Hamas officials were in attendance in South Africa on December 5 when members of Nelson Mandela’s family marked the stateman's 10th death anniversary.
As reported by Times of Israel, former Hamas health minister Basem Naim and Khaled Qaddoumi, the group’s representative in Iran, were among Palestinians currently in South Africa as part of a Hamas delegation and joined Mandela’s grandson, Mandla Mandela, and others at the ceremony at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, the seat of the South African government.
National assembly member Mandla Mandela, helped organize a two-day conference on the Palestinian-Israel conflict before the wreath-laying at the Union Buildings.
The article recalls, that South Africa has been vocal in its support of the Palestinian cause for years as it has previously compared Israel’s actions in Gaza to its own past apartheid system of racial oppression.
