Hamas slams US sanctions against Palestinian organisations
Hamas has issued an official statement condemning the U.S. over sanctions it imposed on Palestinian organisations and figures engaged in human rights and humanitarian assistance.
“We strongly condemn the decision by the U.S. Treasury to impose sanctions on a number of Palestinian organisations and figures who are actively working in the fields of human rights and humanitarian assistance. We consider these decisions unfair and unjust, based on provocations from the criminal Zionist entity,” Caliber.Az quotes the statement as saying.
The group also called on the U.S. administration to “force” Israel to fulfil its obligations under the ceasefire agreement, specifically to open border crossings for the delivery of humanitarian aid and allow the National Committee for Gaza to begin its work.
The sanctions in question were announced by the U.S. Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on January 21, 2026, designating six Gaza-based entities—including the Waed Society Gaza, Al-Nur Society Gaza, Qawafil Society Gaza, Al-Falah Society Gaza, and others—under Executive Order 13224 (as amended) for allegedly providing material support to Hamas's military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades.
According to the US Treasury, these organisations claim to offer medical care and civilian aid but were exposed through seized documents from Hamas offices post-October 7, 2023, as covert channels funnelling resources to terrorist activities rather than genuine humanitarian efforts. The move aims to disrupt Hamas financing networks while preserving legitimate aid pathways via existing OFAC humanitarian general licenses, particularly as international stabilisation and reconstruction efforts ramp up in Gaza under the recent ceasefire framework.
