Hamas urges Iran to “activate all fronts” in letter to Mojtaba Khamenei
Hamas reportedly encouraged Iran to “activate all fronts” in a secret letter sent to Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, Israel’s public broadcaster KAN News reported on March 15.
According to the report, the private message followed a more measured public statement issued by Hamas on March 14, in which the group urged Iran not to target neighbouring Gulf countries, the Jerusalem Post cites the report.
“While the group affirms Iran's right to respond to this aggression by all available means in accordance with international norms and laws, it calls upon our brothers in Iran not to target neighboring countries,” Hamas said in its public statement.
In contrast, the reported secret letter took a firmer tone, declaring the group’s intention not to allow itself to be disarmed.
“The Hamas movement stands today with all its weight behind your wise leadership in the face of the 'Zionist-American' anarchy,” the letter said.
The message also criticised Gulf countries that have normalized relations with Israel, describing them as part of a “losing camp.”
“They didn't even dare to protect those who found shelter in their bases,” the letter said, in an apparent reference to Gulf states where US forces are stationed and where American soldiers have reportedly been killed by Iranian missile strikes during what was described as Operation Epic Fury.
The letter further pledged Hamas’ continued support for Iran, alongside “our brothers in the resistance axis in Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq.”
“We'll forge, under your leadership, the next victories,” the group said.
Responding on X, Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel described the letter as a “smoking gun.”
“Proof the Palestinians betray their Arab brothers,” it said, referring to Hamas’ characterisation of certain Gulf states as “weak.”
