Head of Azerbaijan's Euronest PA delegation reacts harshly to Armenian Speaker's accusations
Armenian Parliamentary Speaker Alen Simonyan has accused Azerbaijan of alleged ethnic cleansing in Karabakh, and destruction of Armenian heritage and used the term "Nagorno-Karabakh" during yesterday's plenary session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly in Brussels.
Caliber.Az reports that the head of the Azerbaijani delegation, MP Tahir Mirkishili, who spoke later, said he regretted the biased speech of the Armenian parliament speaker.
In his view, such a speech is destructive in the current atmosphere of peace talks. Mirkishili stressed that everyone should support the process of normalising relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
According to him, there is no region called "Nagorno-Karabakh" in Azerbaijan, but there is Karabakh economic region. He stressed that our country has never carried out ethnic cleansing and that there are still Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh. He also noted that Armenia has caused considerable destruction and called on its representatives to stop using provocative rhetoric and to make peace proposals.
