Head-on bus crash in Niger leaves 22 dead, 37 injured
A major road accident involving two buses in Niger has killed 22 people, including 17 military personnel, while another 37 people were injured, according to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
The collision occurred close to the village of Rezi in the Madaoua department, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
An STM company bus was traveling from Madaoua, while a SONITRAV bus was coming from Zinder. The vehicles collided head-on. The SONITRAV bus was carrying military personnel who had completed their training.
Transport Minister Abdourahamane Amadou expressed condolences to the families of those killed on behalf of the country’s president and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He also said responsibility for the tragedy would be assigned to the transport companies that owned the buses.
