Heavy downpour floods New York, leaving two dead VIDEO
Torrential rains have flooded roads and streets across New York City, leaving two people dead in the storm.
A heavy downpour flooded streets and the subway within just 20 minutes, forcing residents to wade through roads and leaving about 1,500 locals without power, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Footage from the scene shows highways and vehicles submerged under water.
More than 1,200 flights were cancelled across the United States due to heavy rain, with New York City’s three airports experiencing the most disruptions.
The rain and strong winds were caused not by Hurricane Melissa — which battered the Caribbean earlier this week — but by an inland storm system moving through the Northeast, one of the factors that helped keep Melissa away from the US.
