Heavy rains kill 59 in Brazil’s Minas Gerais

The death toll caused by heavy rainfall in Minas Gerais, located in southeastern Brazil, has climbed to 59, while 15 people remain missing, local authorities reported on Thursday, February 26.
According to foreign media, the city of Juiz de Fora has been the most severely affected, accounting for 53 of the confirmed fatalities. In the municipality of Ubá, officials reported six deaths and said two people are still unaccounted for.
Emergency services continue to operate around the clock under a rotating 24-hour schedule. Rescue teams, supported by heavy machinery and search dogs, are working in areas impacted by landslides and building collapses as search and recovery operations continue.
