Helicopters deployed as forest fire rages near Baghdati, Georgia
A forest fire has broken out near the town of Baghdati in Georgia’s Imereti region, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
Three helicopters from the Border Police have joined firefighting efforts, the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Emergency Management Service said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
Approximately 200 firefighters, supported by specialized equipment and machinery, are actively engaged in combating the blaze. The fire’s origin has been identified near the village of Khani, and intensive operations are underway to contain it.
An operational headquarters has been established on-site to coordinate the response. In addition to the firefighting personnel and equipment from the Emergency Management Service, the deployment of Border Police helicopters is enhancing efforts to control the fire.
Officials from the Emergency Management Service have confirmed that, at present, there is no threat of the fire spreading to nearby residential areas.
