Hezbollah identifies commanders killed in Beirut attack

21 September 2024 15:24

The death toll from the Israeli attack in Beirut has risen to 19, with 66 reported injuries.

The targeted strike in Beirut came in response to scores of rockets launched from Lebanon toward northern Israel on September 20, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

Hezbollah has officially acknowledged that among the deceased in the Dahiyeh quarter are several high-ranking commanders, including Ibrahim Aqil, head of the organization’s operational department. The group has released the names of the fallen leaders.

The highest-ranking casualty, following Aqil, is Ahmed Mahmoud Wahabi, also known as Hajj Abu Hassin Samir. He was a senior commander of the Radwan forces and oversaw Hezbollah's central training unit, where he was responsible for training fighters. A veteran of the movement, Wahabi led a notable ambush against Israeli Defense Forces in 1997 west of the Litani River and held multiple positions within Hezbollah's training framework.

Other commanders confirmed dead include Mahmoud Yassin, Samer Halabi, Hassan Madi, Hassan Abd al-Satar, Muhammad Rada, Muhammad al-Attar, Ahmed Diab, Arif Alrouz, Mehdi Jamul, and Abdullah Hijazi.

The Dahiyeh attack specifically targeted a meeting of 20 Hezbollah commanders.
