Houston firefighters battle major blaze at waste treatment plant VIDEO
The Houston Fire Department has been responding to a large fire that broke out at a waste treatment plant, with emergency crews continuing efforts to bring the blaze under control several hours after it began.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the department said firefighters arrived at the scene at approximately 2:50 p.m. local time, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
About 200 firefighters have been deployed to tackle the fire, which officials said has required an extended emergency response due to its scale.
Authorities said air quality monitoring has so far indicated that levels of hazardous particles remain within safe limits. No injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and an investigation is expected once the site is secured.
