Houthi chief predicts new waves of regional fighting ahead
21 April 2026 20:09
Yemen’s Houthi rebel leader has warned that further escalation in the region remains likely, even if a ceasefire between the United States and Iran holds and the current conflict comes to an end, AP reports.
In a televised speech, Abdul Malik al-Houthi said that “there is no doubt that further rounds of fighting are coming, as it is merely a truce within a continuous conflict with the enemy.”
He cautioned that escalation in the region is “possibly high” as the “fragile” ceasefire approaches its end.
The warning comes after a Houthi missile attack on Israel last month, which raised concerns that the Iran-aligned group in Yemen could again attempt to disrupt Red Sea shipping routes, as it previously did during the Gaza conflict.
