Houthi forces report intercepting Saudi drone during “hostile actions”

Yemen’s Houthi movement said it had shot down a Saudi reconnaissance drone over northern Yemen, according to a statement by its military spokesperson Yahya Saree.

Writing on Telegram, Saree said Houthi forces “managed to shoot down a [Vestel] Karayel-type reconnaissance drone belonging to the Saudi enemy whilst it was carrying out hostile actions in the skies over Sa’ada province”. He added that the drone was struck “this morning by appropriate weapons”.

The claim could not be independently verified.

The Iran-aligned group, formally known as Ansar Allah, has frequently reported intercepting drones and missiles during its conflict with the Saudi-led coalition.

Earlier, the Houthis said they had carried out strikes on several Saudi oil production and transportation facilities.

Following the attack, Saudi Aramco has suspended operations at its Abqaiq oil processing facility.
