Houthi head voices strong support for Iran, condemns violation of UN Charter
Head of the Houthi Supreme Political Council Mahdi al-Mashat has voiced firm support for Iran's right to defend its sovereignty in the face of recent Israeli attacks, warning against what he described as the systematic erosion of international norms.
In a statement, the Yemeni leader emphasized that Yemen stands with Iran in resisting aggression and upholding its territorial integrity, Caliber.Az reports per Yemeni media.
“We affirm Yemen's support for Iran in its right to defend its sovereignty and deter aggressors,” Al-Mashat stated.
Condemning the use of force outside international legal frameworks, Al-Mashat underscored the importance of the United Nations Charter as the cornerstone of global order and diplomacy.
“There is no international charter that authorizes anyone to unleash their rabid dog on whomever they want. The United Nations Charter is the governing contract for relations between states, and we will not allow it to be violated,” he said.
Al-Mashat cautioned that any erosion of these international agreements could usher in a dangerous era defined solely by might.
“Violating the UN Charter means turning the world into a jungle where only the strong can survive,” he asserted.
The Yemeni president also criticized countries that, rather than upholding peace, have instead chosen to participate in acts of aggression and interference in the sovereignty of other nations.
“It is the duty of some countries to maintain international peace and security, not to engage in aggression and interfere in the sovereignty of other countries,” he said.
Referring to Israel's military operations and its broader implications, Al-Mashat delivered a stark warning regarding the breakdown of international unity.
“If the bond between the nations of the world is broken due to the slaves of Zionism, the language of force is the alternative,” he stated.
Looking to the future, Al-Mashat suggested that current conflicts will reshape the international order in unpredictable ways.
“The dust of the battle will eventually settle upon a new world, and no one today can determine the outcome or what that world will be like,” he remarked.
The Yemeni leader called upon the global community to denounce Israeli military actions and join in efforts to restore peace in accordance with international law.
“We call on all peace-loving countries of the world to raise their voices against Zionist aggression before its flames reach every country,” Al-Mashat urged.
“All peace-loving countries must engage in efforts to halt the blatant Zionist aggression against Iran and the countries of the region, in accordance with the UN Charter and the methods it has set for halting any aggression against any member state until peace and security are achieved,” he added.
Concluding his remarks, Al-Mashat emphasized the need to reinforce the UN Charter as a mechanism for justice and peace.
“The exploitation of the UN Charter by those supposed to protect it compels us and many countries of the world to strengthen this Charter, and we will take all necessary measures to achieve peace and security,” he declared.
