Houthis claim drone attack on Yavne, Israel, no injuries reported

09 December 2024 21:50

The Houthis, from the Ansar Allah movement, Yemen, have claimed responsibility for a drone strike on Yavne city, located in central Israel.

In a televised address, Brigadier General Yahya Sare’e, spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, confirmed that a drone strike successfully hit its intended target, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

He described the operation as part of the fifth phase of Yemen's ongoing campaign to support Palestinian resistance amid Israel's aggression in Gaza and the West Bank.

Sare’e emphasized that the Yemeni Armed Forces are prepared to respond to any further Israeli aggression against Yemen, warning that they will escalate military operations if provoked.

“Our support operations for the Palestinian people will not stop until the aggression ceases and the siege on Gaza is lifted,” he stated.

Since the onset of Israel’s war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, following Operation Al-Aqsa Storm by Palestinian resistance movements, Yemen has expressed unwavering support for Palestine’s struggle against occupation. As part of a phased escalation, the Yemeni Armed Forces have regularly targeted Israel, launching strikes aimed at disrupting Israeli infrastructure.

This campaign has included a maritime blockade on Israeli shipping, preventing vessels from reaching Israeli ports. In the first phase, Yemen targeted the port of Umm al-Rashrash in southern occupied Palestine.

Over the past year, military actions have escalated across five phases, with Yemeni forces now able to strike deep within Israel, including Jaffa (Tel Aviv) and other key locations. These operations have involved the use of advanced drones and hypersonic missiles, causing significant damage to critical military infrastructure and ports throughout the occupied territories.

Israeli air defence systems reportedly failed to detect the incoming drone, preventing any interception attempts. According to N12 TV, the drone struck a multi-story building.

No injuries were reported in the attack, which caused damage to several apartments in the building.

The army said it is investigating the failure of the air-raid sirens to detect the drone.
