Humpback whale stranded again off German coast

A humpback whale that ran aground on March 29 in the Baltic Sea off Germany has been unable to free itself, authorities reported on March 30.

The Wismar police, cited by DPA, said the whale remains in the Wismar Bay, where lower water levels compared to March 29 have worsened the situation. Police added that experts will need to assess the situation before deciding the whale’s fate.

The whale attracted widespread media attention after stranding last week near Timmendorfer Beach, in northern Germany, close to Lübeck.
