Hungarian FM: Better to admit Georgia to EU than Ukraine
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó stated that the European Union should prioritise granting membership to Georgia over Ukraine, arguing that EU leaders are making a serious mistake by refusing to accept Georgia.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his Georgian counterpart, Maka Botchorishvili, Szijjártó also thanked Tbilisi for its continued cooperation, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media.
“We think that the European Union is making a big mistake when it thinks that Georgia should be kept at a distance from the European Union. From our point of view, the situation is clear - Georgia will strengthen the European Union, and close negotiations with Georgia will be much more beneficial than with Ukraine, because Ukraine will not only weaken the European Union, but will also pose a threat to the European Union due to very low-quality grain and other products,” FM noted.
Szijjártó added that Hungary and Georgia have resisted external pressure thanks to strong leadership and will not allow outside forces to undermine them.
“Hungary and Georgia were able to withstand external pressure because they have very strong leaders, neither Georgia nor Hungary could be broken under the daily pressure. We will not allow others to defeat us. We are proud of the fact that Hungary and Georgia are pioneers of the global patriotic revolution. These are two states that clearly demonstrate what a patriotic revolution can achieve, ” the Hungarian FM concluded.
