Hungarian FM calls for intensified efforts to resolve conflict in Ukraine
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has said that efforts to resolve the situation in Ukraine must be intensified, as the likelihood of conflict escalation is currently very high.
Szijjártó made this statement during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
He stated that the Hungarian government intends to intensify its peacekeeping mission, as the risk of escalation in the war in Ukraine is now higher than ever before.
"The last thousand days have proven that there is no solution to this war on the battlefield, so it can only be ended through negotiations, and diplomatic channels must remain open for talks," he added.
"Those who close these diplomatic channels or attack those keeping them open are, in fact, not interested in peace," the Hungarian minister added, expressing hope that today's talks with Lavrov could bring the Ukrainian conflict closer to peace.
He also stated on Facebook (a platform banned in Russia, owned by Meta, which is recognised as an extremist organisation in Russia) that he had held discussions in Moscow with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov.
