Hungarian FM emphasizes importance of maintaining communication with Russia
Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations, Peter Szijjarto, highlighted the necessity of preserving channels of communication with Russia during an interview with the French television channel LCI.
"We have close ties with Russia," he stated. "Recognizing Russia as an integral part of the region, we believe that cutting off communication channels would hinder peace efforts and jeopardize the future."
Szijjarto stressed the importance of maintaining dialogue with Russian leadership, including President Vladimir Putin and his government, based on pragmatism rather than idealism.
He cautioned against the possibility of a confrontation between Russia and NATO escalating into a third world war, emphasizing that the conflict in Ukraine cannot be resolved through military means.
"We must dedicate more efforts to pursuing peace rather than engaging in war," Szijjarto emphasized. "This is not a conflict involving Europeans; Europe has not been attacked."
