Hungarian FM Péter Szijjártó gone missing following election defeat reports
Hungarian media have drawn attention to the apparent disappearance of Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó from the public sphere following reports of an electoral defeat for the ruling party.
Szijjártó did not appear alongside Prime Minister Viktor Orbán when he publicly acknowledged the election results, Caliber.Az reports, citing Hungarian media.
It is also noted that the minister did not post on social media for more than 16 hours.
His last Facebook message was published at around 4:00 p.m. on April 12 and contained a call for supporters of the Fidesz party to participate in the election.
Earlier that day, he had shared a post showing that he voted together with his wife.
Hungarian media also recall that Szijjártó has previously faced criticism following investigative reports concerning his contacts with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and allegations regarding the possible transfer of confidential information related to EU negotiations.
