Hungarian PM accepts Trump’s offer to join Peace Council on Gaza

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has accepted an offer from US President Donald Trump to join the Peace Council that will deal with governance issues in the Gaza Strip.

The announcement was made by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó Caliber.Az reports via Hungarian media.

“Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has received an invitation from US President Donald Trump to take part in the work of the ‘Peace Council’ on Gaza,” Szijjártó said in an interview on Kossuth Radio. He noted that the Hungarian government considers this a great honor and will accept President Trump’s proposal. According to Szijjártó, Orbán has instructed him to officially notify the US administration of Hungary’s decision.

The minister also stressed that Hungary “highly values the peacekeeping efforts” of the US president and places hope in him regarding the settlement of the situation in the Gaza Strip. Szijjártó added that Budapest is interested in achieving peace in the Middle East, as developments in the region have a serious impact on Europe’s security.

Separately, Jordan’s King Abdullah II has received an official invitation from US President Donald Trump to join the “Peace Council” that will address governance issues in the Palestinian Gaza Strip, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry said.

According to the statement, “the documents related to the invitation are currently under review.”
