Hungarian PM launches signature campaign opposing EU military plans

Hungary has begun collecting signatures from citizens opposing the European Union’s military plans, Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced on Facebook.

“A hot fall awaits us. Europe is rapidly approaching war. A few weeks ago, Brussels’ war plan was presented in Copenhagen: Europe pays, Ukrainians fight, and Russia will be exhausted,” Orban wrote, warning against Hungary’s involvement.

He emphasised that Hungary rejects these plans and accused the EU of launching a campaign to discredit the country. “The arsenal is wide: accusations of espionage, fake news scandals, and legal manipulations,” he said.

Orban urged citizens to take action: “We cannot stand by and watch this! We have to show once again that the Hungarian people do not want war. That is why today we start collecting signatures against Brussels’ war plans. We will be in every town and every village, because right now we need every peace-loving Hungarian!”

Earlier, the Hungarian government stated that it would determine its position on the Ukraine conflict and the EU’s military plans based on public opinion, including the results of the signature collection under the petition against Brussels’ proposals. The completed petition is expected to be sent to EU leaders.
