Hungarian PM remains hopeful for Russia-Ukraine ceasefire deal
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has stated that he will not respond to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s insults.
“The possibility of a mass prisoner exchange and a Christmas ceasefire is on the table. It doesn’t matter how it got there; it is there. There are two things to do with it: accept it or reject it. One party has accepted it, while the other has apparently rejected it. But there are still several days until Christmas, let’s hope for the best! the Hungarian prime minister wrote on X, Caliber.Az reports.
On December 15, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto revealed that Orban had requested a phone call with President Zelenskyy. However, Kyiv rejected Budapest's request. Orban intended to propose a Christmas ceasefire with Russia and a large-scale prisoner exchange to the Ukrainian leader.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry described Hungary’s proposal for a Christmas ceasefire as "immoral manipulation," while President Zelenskyy stated that he would not allow individuals like Orban to interfere and expressed a preference for direct negotiations with the US.
