Hungarian president: Putin's responsibility for war "obvious"
Hungarian President Katalin Novak has said that Russian President Vladimir Putin's responsibility for the war against Ukraine is obvious.
She made the remarks during her visit to Kyiv on November 27, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing the briefing after the International summit of the initiative Grain from Ukraine.
"Vladimir Putin's responsibility for this war is obvious and Hungarians have always and in everything opposed this suffering and bloodshed. We are a neighbour of Ukraine and our neighbours can rely on our help. Neighbours will always remain neighbours", Novak said.
She said that Hungary has "150,000 reasons to stop this war and achieve peace".
"One hundred and fifty thousand reasons are one hundred and fifty thousand Hungarians living in Transcarpathia on the territory of Ukraine. Many ethnic Hungarians have already given their lives for the defence of Ukraine", the president of Hungary added.
She condemned the Russian aggression and pointed to the fact that "the war in Ukraine is the most urgent and important challenge in our region".
Novak stressed that the parties should return to the negotiating table, "diplomatic channels should be opened, and the ultimate goal should be to achieve a just peace".
"The year 2022 was a year of war. Let's hope that 2023 will be a year of reconstruction and peace", the president added.
