Hungary applauds Trump-Putin summit as key to global security
Hungary’s government has welcomed the latest talks between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, describing high-level dialogue between the two powers as vital for global security.
In a statement on August 16, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said the two leaders deserved recognition for holding the summit, adding that the meeting had once again demonstrated that the war in Ukraine could only be resolved at the negotiating table, Caliber.Az reports.
“Peace can only be achieved through negotiation, dialogue, and keeping diplomatic channels open,” the statement read.
The Hungarian government stressed it had maintained this position for the past three and a half years, in contrast to what it called “pro-war” European politicians in Brussels.
