Hungary officially designates Antifa as terrorist organization

The Hungarian government has formally declared the far-left movement Antifa a terrorist organization.

The decision was announced by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, and shared publicly by Zoltán Kovács, State Secretary for International Communication and Relations, Cabinet Office of the Prime Minister, via his official account on the social media platform X, Caliber.Az reports.

In the statement, Prime Minister Orbán emphasized that his administration will take robust measures against groups affiliated with the Antifa movement, which he described as a threat to public order and national stability.

“Hate has once again seeped into politics worldwide. In its wake comes verbal aggression, physical violence and attacks.

Hungary was long a bastion of peace. Now hatred and violence are knocking at our door. It’s at concerts where executions are mimicked. It’s at the church gate where an elderly monk is threatened. It’s at political rallies where an irresponsible character shows up armed. And it’s on the streets where far-left activists beat innocent people.

Enough is enough. We must stamp out the politics of violence at its root if we want to preserve Hungary’s peace. Today we take the first step: we will designate Antifa organizations as terrorist groups and strike them down with the full force of the law. No more violence!” the post reads.
