Hungary receives exemption from approaching Russian oil price cap
05 December 2022 02:59
Hungary has been exempted from a proposed Russian oil price cap, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said at a briefing in Brussels broadcast on his Facebook page on December 3
Szijjarto said that the European Union’s current proposal says that oil deliveries through pipelines would be exempt from the price cap, which means it would not affect Hungary if the proposed cap is adopted later.
"European Union introduces oil cap. But it is high time that they realized it in Brussels as well: measures like this and similar ones hurt the European economy mostly.
The number of energy carriers should be increased because this would reduce prices. During the negotiations on the oil cap we fought a lot for Hungarian interests and in the end we were successful: Hungary is exempted from applying the oil cap.
We managed to protect the security of energy supply in our country by doing this again", the minister wrote.
