Hungary rules out sending weapons to Ukraine, PM tells NATO chief
Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar has said Budapest will not supply Ukraine with weapons or military equipment for use in the ongoing war with Russia, according to a statement cited by Caliber.Az from his official Facebook post.
Magyar made the remarks following a meeting in Brussels with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, during which he reaffirmed Hungary’s position on military support to Kyiv.
“I informed the Secretary General that Hungary is not sending either weapons or military equipment to the Russian-Ukrainian war,” Magyar said.
Despite the stance, the Hungarian prime minister stressed that Budapest remains committed to the NATO alliance, describing Hungary as a “reliable partner” of the bloc. He also noted that Hungarian troops continue to participate in NATO’s peacekeeping mission in Kosovo.
According to Magyar, the discussions also covered preparations for the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara, scheduled for July 7–8, as well as broader security issues, including developments related to tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte reportedly briefed Magyar on the agenda of the upcoming summit during the meeting.
