Hungary’s incoming government plans temporary suspension of state media
14 April 2026 12:16
Hungarian Prime Minister-elect Péter Magyar, leader of the Tisza Party, has announced that Hungary’s new ruling coalition intends to temporarily suspend the news operations of state-run media following its victory in parliamentary elections.
Speaking at a press conference for international media, Magyar said the move is aimed at restoring editorial independence, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
He explained that the suspension would remain in place until conditions are established to ensure objective and impartial reporting. Magyar added that his government’s goal is to bring state media standards in line with those of the BBC.
