Hungary’s incoming PM opposes Szijjártó appointment
28 April 2026 11:35
Péter Magyar, Hungary’s future prime minister, said his party, the Tisza Party, which holds a constitutional majority in parliament, will not support the nomination of Péter Szijjártó for the post of deputy speaker of the National Assembly.
Magyar made the statement in a post published on Tuesday, April 28, on his Facebook page.
He argued that following the transition of Viktor Orbán’s party, Fidesz, into opposition in the newly formed parliament, a new candidate should be put forward for the deputy speaker position.
“I warn that the Tisza party will not vote for Péter Szijjártó, who has betrayed Hungarian interests, for the position of deputy speaker of the National Assembly,” Magyar wrote.
