Hungary's Orban demands EU Commission chief’s resignation over “pro-war” speech

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has openly called for the resignation of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, accusing her of promoting a militaristic agenda and escalating tensions in Europe.

Orbán’s remarks come in response to a recent statement by von der Leyen following an incident involving drones entering Polish airspace. The Hungarian leader sharply criticized her reaction, characterizing it as a “pro-war political speech” and warning of its potential to further destabilize the region, Caliber.Az reports.

“Russian drones shot down in Polish airspace, while EU Commission President – who is in fact the employee of the Member States – delivered a hardcore pro-war political speech. The word “Ukraine” was mentioned 35 times, and threats were made to cut EU funds from anyone refusing to follow Brussels’ line,” State Secretary for International Communication and Relations, Cabinet Office of the Prime Minister, Zoltan Kovacs, conveyed the words by Orban on his X account.

“We responded: in the afternoon the Patriots EP submitted a motion of no confidence – von der Leyen must go. Huge challenges, fierce debates. Change is coming whether we want it or not. The question is: will the answer be Brussels’ answer, or Hungary’s answer?

For us the choice is clear: a competitive, independent, family-friendly, peaceful and secure Hungary – not the Brussels-directed, overtaxed, pro-migration, pro-war, Ukraine-first country promoted by Magyar Peter MP and Dobrev Klara. The equation is becoming crystal clear,” the post notes.
