Hungary’s PM-elect signals support for euro adoption
13 April 2026 21:06
Election winner Peter Magyar has said that adopting the euro would be in Hungary’s national interest, while stressing that no specific timeline has yet been set for joining the single currency area.
Speaking to reporters in Budapest on April 13, Magyar said his government would determine a roadmap for euro adoption after conducting a comprehensive review of the economy, Bloomberg reports.
He added that the timing of Hungary’s potential entry into the euro area would depend on economic conditions and fiscal readiness.
The eurozone’s most recent enlargement came with Bulgaria, which joined earlier this year as the last former communist state to enter the currency union.
