Hungary’s PM says Europe facing financial ruin over Ukraine conflict
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has warned that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine could ultimately drive Europe toward financial ruin.
Speaking in an interview with the YouTube channel Patriota, Orbán said that, in informal discussions, German officials frame their approach in terms of military strategy and argue that their actions are rational, particularly in continuing to finance the war.
“They claim their actions are reasonable… That is why they are financing the war. This is the German logic. However, this will lead Germany and Europe to complete financial bankruptcy, because the war will ruin us,” he said.
Orbán further asserted that policymakers in Berlin are operating under what he described as a flawed assumption — namely, that Europe can sustain financial support for Ukraine longer than Russia can maintain its involvement in the conflict.
