Hungary says it does not train Ukrainian servicemen
Gergely Gulyás, the head of the Office of the Prime Minister of Hungary, has said that his country does not train Ukrainian servicemen on its territory.
According to TASS, he made the remarks on March 9 during a meeting with journalists.
He refuted claims by Slovak Defence Minister Jaroslav Nad that Ukrainian soldiers are allegedly being trained secretly in Hungary. "This is ignorance, a mistake," Gulyás said of such speculation. The head of the prime minister's office, who has the rank of minister in the government, clarified that Nad's words are untrue.
Earlier, the Slovak Internet publication Parameter reported that Nad, assessing Hungary's position on Ukraine at a public event, said: "Do you know that Ukrainian soldiers are being trained on their territory?" The Slovak minister hinted that the Hungarian authorities were hiding this fact, and their statements that they would not provide military assistance to the Ukrainian army were just propaganda.
Commenting on these allegations, the Hungarian defence ministry said that Hungarian specialists were involved in the training of Ukrainian military medics for humanitarian purposes and wounded Ukrainian servicemen were treated in the country. However, this was done openly and only military doctors were mentioned. "Hungary's position has not changed: we stand for peace and do not support any actions that lead to an escalation of the war - that is why we will not send weapons or soldiers to Ukraine," the defence ministry confirmed.
