Hungary signs decade-long gas deal with Shell Seeks supply diversification
09 September 2025 20:59
Hungary has signed a ten-year contract with Shell Plc to receive 2 billion cubic metres of natural gas annually from 2026, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on September 9.
"Hungary’s longest-ever and highest-volume Western gas purchase agreement has just been signed with Shell. Starting in 2026, this 10-year deal will supply 2 billion cubic meters of gas to Hungary," Caliber.Az quotes Szijjártó as saying on X.
According to Szijjártó, real diversification means adding new sources, not cutting existing ones.
Hungary, a major gas consumer in Central Europe, has sought to reduce dependency on a single source while balancing relationships with both Eastern and Western energy partners.
