Hungary to veto EU plans to impose sanctions on Russian nuclear power industry
25 September 2023 17:43
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó has said that the Hungarian government will veto the European Union's proposals to impose sanctions on Russian nuclear energy companies.
He made the remarks on the sidelines of the IAEA General Conference, according to Kommersant.
Szijjártó said he had also outlined his position at a meeting with Rosatom head Alexei Likhachev.
"The possibility of using nuclear energy and doing so in cooperation with Rosatom is in Hungary's national interest. The construction of the Paks-2 NPP continues to be a major international project, and in addition to Rosatom, American, German and French companies are involved in it," the minister said.
