Hunter Biden takes role at addiction treatment centre in California

18 June 2026 17:25

Hunter Biden, who has become more publicly active in recent months following his father’s departure from office, has taken on a new role at a luxury addiction treatment facility in Southern California as an adviser and executive director of its charitable foundation.

Peak Path Health, located in the Hollywood Hills area of Los Angeles, announced on June 18 that Biden had been appointed executive director of the Peak Path Health Foundation, Caliber.Az reports, citing Newsmax.

The nonprofit was described as being “created in partnership with Peak Path Health to expand recovery support, advocacy, education, and community outreach efforts.”

According to the organisation, “Celebrating seven years of sobriety in June 2026, he brings both lived experience and a passion for expanding access to recovery and behavioral health services.”

It added that the foundation focuses on assisting individuals who may not have the financial resources needed for long-term recovery support.

Biden’s increased public presence comes after years of keeping a relatively low profile amid ongoing legal scrutiny, particularly during his father’s time in the White House.

At the same time, questions continue to circulate regarding his financial situation and residency.

Although former President Joe Biden issued him a broad pardon covering any offences from January 1, 2014, through December 1, 2024, reports indicate that Hunter Biden still faces millions of dollars in unpaid debts and legal expenses.

During a November 2025 podcast interview with South African host Joshua Rubin, he stated that his roughly $17 million debt was tied to legal costs.

“Look at the past six years of my life and the $17 million of debt that I'm in, as it relates to my legal fees,” he said.

In an April court filing related to a fee dispute with his former law firm Winston & Strawn— which represented him in federal gun and tax cases—his attorney described him as “impecunious,” claimed he “lives abroad,” and said he “cannot pay his current lawyers.”

The filing did not specify his country of residence. However, other legal documents suggested he had traveled to South Africa, where his wife has family connections. Separate reports and social media activity have also placed him in California at various points in the spring.

It remains unclear what compensation, if any, Biden will receive from Peak Path, or whether the position requires him to be physically present at the treatment center or allows remote work while potentially living overseas.

Peak Path did not respond to inquiries from the Washington Free Beacon, and Biden’s attorney also declined to comment.

Biden was previously appointed last year as director of development at BASTA Universal, a Los Angeles-based tenants’ rights law firm whose nonprofit status was reportedly revoked the same year, according to the Free Beacon.
