Hunters capture 317-kilogram alligator in Mississippi
A group of hunters in Mississippi have caught a giant alligator weighing an estimated 317 kilograms and measuring nearly four metres in length in the Ross Barnett Reservoir, Clarion Ledger reported.
The team, led by Joe Wyrick and including his 13-year-old son and two other men, initially set out to catch a smaller alligator. They spotted the massive reptile hiding near the shore and moved quickly to pursue it.
According to Wyrick, the hunters cast a fishing line from their boat, which the alligator seized, dragging the vessel along. After a 15-minute struggle, they subdued the animal using a harpoon.
Due to its enormous size, the hunters were unable to haul the alligator into their boat without assistance from others in the area.
“Everything went perfect,” Wyrick said, describing the hunt as a smooth operation despite the predator’s size.
