Hyundai Rotem signs deal for local tank production in Poland
Hyundai Rotem, the defence and rail systems arm of Hyundai Motor Group, announced on Tuesday, April 28, that it has signed an agreement with a Polish partner to establish local production of K2 battle tanks and armoured recovery vehicles (ARVs).
The company signed the contract with Bumar-Labedy, an affiliate of Poland's state-run defence group Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), to produce a localised version of the K2 tank, known as the K2PL, along with ARVs, the company said in a press release, cited by Korean media.
Under the agreement, key components will be shipped from South Korea and assembled at Bumar-Labedy's production facility in Poland, it said.
A company official said the initiative is aimed at positioning Poland as a regional production hub for K2 tanks, with the potential to support expansion into other European markets.
The announcement builds on a separate contract signed in 2022 between Hyundai Rotem and Poland’s state arms procurement agency for the supply of 1,000 K2 tanks. According to the company, 360 units have been delivered so far.
