IAEA board adopts resolution urging Iran to expand cooperation

20 November 2025 16:34

The International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) board of governors adopted a resolution calling on Iran to expand cooperation with the agency and provide full information on its enriched uranium stockpiles.

The resolution calls on Iran to immediately broaden comprehensive cooperation, give inspectors precise information on uranium enriched to near-weapons level, and grant access to the country’s nuclear facilities, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

Nineteen of 35 countries voted in favour during a closed session, with Russia, China, and Niger opposing, 12 abstaining, and one not voting.

The resolution was proposed by France, the United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States.

Diplomats familiar with the draft say the resolution emphasises that Iran must clarify the status of its enriched-uranium stockpile, including material enriched up to 60%, and permit inspectors access to sites targeted during the US-Israeli strikes.

These locations have remained off-limits to the Agency since the attacks, with Iran citing security concerns and damaged infrastructure as reasons for delayed inspections.

Russia and China criticised the resolution as “politicised,” accusing Washington and its allies of using the IAEA to exert pressure following a military operation that remains internationally disputed. Tehran, meanwhile, has warned that such pressure risks undermining diplomacy and destabilising the region.

Iranian officials have consistently called for “professional and depoliticised” cooperation, arguing that the IAEA’s mandate is being distorted by countries that both attacked its nuclear sites illegally and are now demanding inspections.
