IAEA chief plans to visit Kursk nuclear plant Amid possible Ukrainian attack
Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi has expressed concerns about the safety of the Kursk and Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plants amid recent events in Russia.
Grossi has indicated his willingness to personally assess the situation at the operational Kursk nuclear plant and, given the proximity of military actions, to visit it, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.
Earlier, during a phone conversation, Director General of Rosatom State Atimoc Energy Corporation Alexey Likhachev, invited Grossi to visit the Kursk nuclear plant and Kursk town.
The Kursk Nuclear Power Plant is located in Kurchatov, a city with 40,000 people situated 65 kilometres from the Ukrainian border. The Russian Defence Ministry has reported receiving information about preparation by the Ukrainian armed forces to strike the Kursk plant. Since August 6, fighting has been ongoing in the Sudzhansky District of the Kursk region between Russian and Ukrainian forces.
