IAEA Chief Rafael Grossi to run for UN Secretary General post

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, intends to apply for the post of UN Secretary General.

Grossi made the relevant statement during an interview with the French agency AFP on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Caliber.Az reports, citing TASS.

The UN is currently in a difficult position, and "everyone admits" that the organisation no longer fulfils its task of maintaining peace in the whole world.

However, Grossi expressed confidence that this situation can be changed.

He mentioned that the experience of working as the head of the IAEA will help him to be elected to the post of UN Secretary General.

Grossi will strive to maintain a dialogue "with everyone" and "be an acceptable mediator for all".
