IAEA chief visits Ukraine on Chornobyl disaster anniversary
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said he visited Kyiv and held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster.
In a post on X, Grossi said the discussions focused on the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), as well as the IAEA’s efforts to support the restoration of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, as per Caliber.Az.
He noted that this work includes plans for new power units at the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant and ongoing repair efforts at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
In addition, the IAEA signed an agreement with Ukraine’s energy minister covering cooperation on restoring the country’s energy system, developing nuclear power, reconstructing grids and substations, and supporting research and development initiatives.
