IAEA director general describes COP29 as key to turning climate commitments into action
Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has told reporters at COP29 that they arrived with high expectations.
He stressed that this year’s conference represents a critical opportunity to turn the commitments made at last year’s COP into tangible actions, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
On November 11, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) officially kicked off in Baku. Running until November 22, the conference is anticipated to be a pivotal event in the global battle against climate change, attracting international attention.
One of the key highlights of the event is the High-Level Segment of the Climate Action Summit, scheduled for November 12-13. During this segment, approximately 80 heads of state and government from countries that are party to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will address the audience, outlining their nations' commitments and strategies to combat climate change.
The speeches from world leaders will continue through November 13, paving the way for ongoing discussions about policies, solutions, and global collaboration in the fight against climate change. COP29 is seen as a crucial moment for countries to reaffirm their climate goals and enhance international cooperation.
