ICRC visits inmates of Armenian origin in Azerbaijani prisons
“Officers of the International Committee of the Red Cross regularly visit people of Armenian origin detained in Azerbaijan, as well as Azerbaijanis detained in Armenia.”
The head of the representative office of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Azerbaijan, Dragana Kojic, told reporters at a seminar in Nakhchivan, APA reports.
She noted that during such visits, staff of the International Committee of the Red Cross inquire about the conditions of detention and treatment of detainees.
“The ICRC also checks whether these people have conditions for contact with their families and creates these conditions. When we, as the International Committee of the Red Cross, visit these individuals, as a result of this activity, all information, issues are transmitted and discussed only in a bilateral confidential manner with the relevant structures. The International Committee of the Red Cross regularly discusses these issues with both sides - both Azerbaijani and Armenian. The site visits were carried out at the end of October - beginning of November.”
