IDF: Iranian missile with cluster warhead hits central Israel, scattering submunitions
The IDF Home Front Command has confirmed that Iran launched at least one ballistic missile today, equipped with a cluster bomb warhead, targeting central Israel.
The missile’s warhead split apart during descent at an altitude of approximately 7 kilometres, scattering about 20 small submunitions across an 8-kilometre radius. These submunitions are unguided and fall randomly to the ground, Caliber.Az reports, citing The Times of Israel.
One of them struck a house in the central city of Azor, causing some damage.
An Israeli military official stated that such a missile poses a threat to a much wider area than other Iranian ballistic missile warheads, although the blast from each cluster submunition is much smaller.
The army is warning the public not to approach any missile remnants they may find on the ground, as they are dangerous and could explode.
The Home Front Command has not changed its guidelines for the civilian population regarding cluster bomb attacks.
