Bosch joins global humanoid robot race with 2027 launch
German technology giant Bosch plans to launch mass production of humanoid robots at its plant in Bühl, in the Black Forest region, in August 2027, Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung (FAS) reports.
The production line will be established in cooperation with British robotics startup Humanoid, making the Bühl facility the first Bosch site worldwide to manufacture humanoid robots.
Bosch entered the rapidly developing humanoid robotics market relatively late, but has since concluded a number of partnerships with companies in Europe and China, including its agreement with Humanoid.
Humanoid told FAS that series production of its human-like robots in Bühl is scheduled to begin in August 2027. Bosch said it will take responsibility for manufacturing the robots for Humanoid following successful testing at the facility.
The German company is also considering supplying individual components for the robots, including actuators, motors and sensors. Bosch said discussions on potential component supplies are still ongoing.
Humanoid plans to manufacture a new generation of robots known as Gamma at the Bühl facility. Automotive supplier Schaeffler, which has also entered into a partnership with Humanoid, is expected to be among the robots’ first customers.
Several hundred humanoid robots are expected to be produced in Bühl in 2027, according to Humanoid.
The companies have not disclosed how many employees will be involved in the production process. FAS reported, however, that the initial workforce is likely to number only in the double digits.
